| 内容記述 | Fuy?-Nikki, The Fuji Diary, is the true account of how Nonaka Chiyoko climbed Mt Fuji to join her husband on the summit in the winter of 1895 and helped him make meteorological observations for a period of almost three months. The diary was first published in a series of 17 episodes in H?chishinbun Newspaper between January 7th and February 1st, 1896. The whole text was then republished in “Sh?kokumin" in 1899. These translated excerpts are based on the text published in Fuy?-nikki in Fuji An-nai/Fuy?-nikki Heibonsha Library 563, compiled by ?mori Hisao and published in 2006. The diary was written in a traditional literary style that is best appreciated in the original. Yet it describes an adventure that was completely unprecedented in Meiji Japan or, for that matter, anywhere else in the world up to that time. | |||||||||||
