| 内容記述 | Holden Caulfield, the protagonist of J. D. Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye, is widely supposed to have been so dissatisfied with the“phoniness" of most adults that he was rebelling against the adult world. Actually, the reverse is the case. Because Holden lacked confidence that he would be successful in the realms of“love and work,"the two quintessentially adult realms, Holden kept finding fault with the adult world. It is, therefore , inappropriate to view him as a rebel. | |||||||
