| 内容記述 | Secondary control refers to the control in changing one's way of thinking and values to match the surrounding environment in situations where conflicts arise between the self (personal goals and ideals) and the surrounding physical and social environments. Although such secondary control is interpreted as “giving up” in the West, in East Asia, it is used preferentially and is believed to contribute to people's psychological well-being. Because the concept of secondary control is ambiguous, researchers do not agree on its definition or function. To examine cultural differences in secondary control, this study first examines the issues in the concept of secondary control and the perspectives of current cultural comparative research. Thereafter, it discusses the function of secondary control from the perspective of cultural comparative research, particularly in terms of cultures that place importance on harmony with their surroundings. | |||||||
